Leandesk Bamboo

Folding sit-stand desk by Henry Swanzy

A sit-stand desk that folds flat instead of permanently occupying the room. Set it to any height and any angle, work sitting or standing, then fold it to 50mm and hand the space back to those who live in it. Sustainable bamboo structure, steel rack, cork handles and Dyneema cord. No motors, no wall fixings necessary, no permanent footprint. Most desks decide how a room gets used. They take a corner and they keep it, whether you are working or not. Leandesk borrows its strength from the wall, so it asks almost nothing of the floor. Work at it all day, at whatever height and angle the task wants. Then fold it to 50mm, store it behind a door or hang it on the wall, and let the room go back to being a room.

Delivery & Returns FAQ

Product Overview

Description

The Leandesk Bamboo folding sit-stand desk borrows its strength from the wall, so it asks almost nothing of the floor. A rack, cleat and cord mechanism sets any height and any angle, moving between sitting and standing in seconds, then releases with a single pull to fold the desk to 50mm for storing behind a door or hanging on the wall.

Designed by Henry Swanzy in FSC-certified bamboo, steel, natural rubber and Dyneema cord, it is a piece of furniture rather than a piece of equipment. Independently load tested to 65kg, with no motor to fail and every part replaceable, it is made to be repaired for as long as you own it.

Meet the Designer

Henry Swanzy

Henry Swanzy made his name in fine furniture and sculpture, and has spent thirty years since asking the same question in different forms: how little can a thing be made of and still do its job properly? It is a question about physics as much as furniture. Most designers reach for a mechanism. He tends to reach for geometry, and for materials asked to work at the edge of what they can do.

That economy now extends from material to space. His current work sets out to let working from home sit more easily alongside life there.

Leandesk is that thinking applied to a desk. It leans, because leaning is the most efficient way to be strong. Its rack is his own design, holding the tray anywhere between seated and standing and letting the desk fold flat from either. The cleat and cord that lock it are borrowed from sailing, where a line has to hold under load and release in a second. The result weighs 8kg and carries 65kg, and he built it to be repaired rather than replaced.

His work has been recognised by Dezeen, Clerkenwell Design Week and the Design Guild Mark, among others.

Lifetime Guarantee

Leandesk is built to be repaired rather than replaced. Every component can be changed on its own, down to the cord and the feet, and the whole desk comes apart with an Allen key. Nothing is bonded shut and nothing is designed to fail.

Register your desk and it is covered by the Leandesk Lifetime Guarantee, against defects in design, workmanship and materials, for as long as you own it. If something goes wrong, we repair it or replace it. Registration takes a couple of minutes online, and it is also where you will find care guidance and spare parts for every part of the desk.

Assembly

Leandesk ships knock-down, so there is a little assembly to do when it arrives. It takes around ten minutes and no tools, with clear instructions in the box and the video below to walk you through it. Once together, it stays together, since the desk folds flat rather than coming apart for storage. If you get stuck, we are on hand at support@leandesk.com.

A place to work.
The space to live.

Folds flat when you’re done working. Work at it all day, at whatever height and angle the task wants. Then fold it to 50mm, store it behind a door or hang it on the wall, and give the room back to your home.

Built to last a lifetime.

Every part of a Leandesk can be replaced on its own, down to the cord and the feet. Nothing is bonded shut, and the whole desk comes apart with an Allen key.

Register your desk and it is covered by the Leandesk Lifetime Guarantee against defects in design, workmanship and materials. We would rather repair a desk in twenty years than sell you another one.

Simple to use

Lift the tray to the height you want and pull down to lock it. Sitting to standing takes seconds, with no power, no buttons and no waiting. One pull releases it again, and the desk folds flat to go behind a door or onto its wall hanger.

Watch: How To Use Leandesk

Any height. Any angle. Anywhere.

A working day is not one position. There is the hour you need to stand for, the sketch that wants the tray raked towards you, the call you would rather take by the window. Leandesk moves with all of it. Pick the wall, set the height, tilt it to suit the task, and change your mind an hour later.

Praise from the press

A meticulously engineered and uniquely discreet sit-stand desk. Seamlessly transitioning from wall-hanging/storage to sitting or standing in seconds.

  1. Andrew Pilmore

We really love our Leandesk. It has really made the most of our office space. Now that we have to share the space, a second full size desk was going to be really tight. This is marvellous. Great design, well put together, easy to set up. We now have a traditional desk, a second sitting or standing desk and a portable desk. Brilliant solution.

  2. Janine McManus

    Perfect for small homes.

I live in a small one bedroom flat so finding a standing desk that can fold away has been very challenging. Leandesk has delivered everything I’ve been looking for and as far as I can see, it’s the only product that offers what it does.

It’s so easy to use, you can quickly switch between standing and sitting. And it takes less than a minute to put it out and fold it away at the end of the day. It’s slim enough to be stored behind a door and surprisingly light so you can move it around your space easily.

The design is gorgeous too. So simple. The wood used is beautiful. For me, the look was really
Important, I’m stood at it all day so I want it to look nice.

I bought the slimmer size and it’s perfect for a laptop, mouse and cup of tea!

Only thing I wish, is that I found it sooner! It’s been a game changer for my back and somehow, makes me feel more productive too!

  3. Katie Ferngrove

    WOW! I love my Leandesk!

Firstly, I have to mention the incredible quality of this item! It is stunning! The materials come together in a seamless yet contrasting way. The bamboo has been finished to such a high standard that I simply can’t stop running my fingers along it! The clever touches of the cork balls at the ends of the cord and the rubber on both the wall-contacting parts and the feet really make this piece stand out as not just a design feature but also a practical, useful item.

What makes it even better is that I can work in so many different places in my house, and I can take it outside in the summer! I can sit or stand, and there’s plenty of space.

I have never used a standing desk before, but I love that the Leandesk combines both functions in one, without needing to plug it in. The simple design truly enhances its beauty.

Plus, to top everything off, the desk was SO easy to put together, and all the packaging went in the recycling. The instruction booklet was clear and even contains care information.

  4. Scott Duncan

    Perfect multi-use desk
I use this desk as part of my photography equipment – on set, it’s really maneuverable, and fits around other equipment. It’s great for switching between sitting and standing, so good for photographers or assistants/digi ops.
Away from set, it’s great for editing/retouching, either in the studio or even at home.

The genius behind it is that it’s easily transported between any and all of these situations.

It looks beautiful, works perfectly, and I genuinely can’t fault it.

  5. Adam Hamilton-Fletcher

    Really impressed

I loved the design of the product when I first saw it, and when I got it I was very happily surprised by the quality and details. From the packaged, the instructions and final product. It’s very evident this was created by a passionate designer, not a mass production facility. Really impressed.

  6. Megan Key

I have been looking for a fold away desk with stand option for ages, and leandesk is the perfect solution to a small space in my flat. The build quality is superb and beautifully utilitarian. Packaging is robust, instructions intuitive and delivery straight forward. Highly recommended.

  7. Storey Bunce

So rare to enjoy such a practical well designed product and know the designer takes such an interest and care in every aspect and detail to maintain sustainability.

  8. Aly S

    Neat solution for tight spaces.

Beautifully made and so simple to set up. Now making use of space I didn’t think I had. So far durable too but TBH once it’s up I rarely pack it down, so not really putting it through its paces yet.

  9. Tom Maurice

As I put it up at work pretty much everybody in our 40 person studio came to have a look, and there was not a single negative comment, mostly just ‘oh, I’d love one of those at home’ ‘that’s so lush’ ‘oh, that is stunning’ ‘I could use that in my tiny flat – soooo cool’ ‘want one, want one, want one’ etc.

Super easy to adjust, easy to adapt it to the environment, easy to get it to a standing level / seating level. The sturdiness is great – full confidence to lean on it and rest weight on it.

At the moment it is being used as a hot desk when we have too many people in, and also by people who work on laptops who want to stand and work for a bit.

I just love the Lean. Simple, beautiful design, expertly made. If you are short of space, want versatility when you work, like to stand and work or are simply a lover of beautiful furniture then this is for you. I never thought it would be a pleasure to be at my desk, but with the Lean, it is.

  10. Kieron Weedon

It’s taken some time for people to break the habit of being ‘own’ desk in the office environment. It takes quite a while for anyone to get out of that mindset of just sitting at the same desk all day and finding the right ‘occasions’ for using a stand-up desk.

The Lean Desk was a great addition to our office. It enabled anyone who wanted a change of scenery or who wanted a different working position to simply set themselves up.

It was very easy to set-up and simple to adjust for anyone. This made it very versatile and allowed us to move it around the office to different locations depending on use.

  11. yanda

The team’s communication was excellent on initial order and offered alternatives.
The desk is light, easy to adjust and perfect for multipurpose space.
In two words – practical functionality!
Also – its bamboo which makes it stylishly sustainable, I love it.

  12. Nicola Rellie

I think it’s very versatile in where it can be used, serving as either a permanent or temporary feature. My workplace has recently implemented stand-up desks to optimise space utilisation and create additional breakout areas for staff. I think they would work well in office environments too.

I have the option at work to sit or stand at a desk but have tended to gravitate more to a seated desk. That said, at home Lean has altered my work pattern, I now regularly take video calls standing up using the Lean and feel more energised during these calls. I also tend to stand at the Lean when carrying our shorter tasks like writing emails. Even though it is easy to change to a seated position, I like it as a stand-up desk and where we have positioned it.

We are genuinely thrilled with our experience of the Lean, as it has truly transformed our work-from-home routine. We mostly use it in the stand-up position and have found ourselves to be more energised and productive throughout the day. Not only is it surprisingly sturdy, it’s also a stylish and interesting piece of furniture to have in the home.

  13. Paul Crump

Very comfortable, I found the hight I wanted both sat and standing really easily.

I love the design and the colourways used. The desk has a very cool and contemporary feel to it. I think considering most desks are an eyesore; this desk is actually a nice feature in the home.

I did think once it was in position it looked great, as I said desks are not normally something I would want on show but this one looks great.

It’s a really useful and aesthetically pleasing thing to have in the house. Super easy to set up, goes anywhere you have a flat piece of wall and really helps you diversify your posture when working from home.

  14. James Knight

Lean has been the perfect addition to my home office set up. Instead of being couped up in the spare room, I can now re-locate around the house, with the flexibility to sit or stand whilst working. Plus, it looks great!

  15. Nadia Macer-Wright

Used in the office against a wall. Best suited for small spaces, temporary spaces or home office environments. It would also be ideal in cafe environments or hotel lobby spaces.

Ideal for small spaces, sustainable, no cost associated with long term use (such as it’s electric counterpart)

Lean is a very clever design and a great mobile solution for ergonomic setup in small or temporary spaces.

  16. Jenny Neary

Our lean desk allowed us to create a versatile workspace with minimal space. Sophisticated engineering and sleek design made it a great addition to our home office while maximising our comfort and concentration.

  17. Carl Winterbourne

I’ve enjoyed having the option to sit or stand while working. In my job I do a lot of presenting and it helps to stand while doing this, but then having the option to sit when I want to relax more. I like that it’s easy to store and can be out of sight when not I’m working.

The adjustable height feature meant that I could get the perfect sitting/standing position. As long as you have a comfortable chair, I can’t see how the experience would be uncomfortable (unless you’re using it wrong).

I have never worked at a standing desk before I used lean. But now having done it a few times I see the benefits of standing vs sitting. As I said before, I think standing for presentations helps you look and feel more alert.

With next to no assembly required, the Lean desk was an instant hit in our household. The adjustable nature of the design meant that I could mix up my working from home routine and feel more alert. The easy storage was a big advantage, especially over traditional desks that take up lots of space.
